Hi, I’m Sarah and am helping Nicole out at the shop now so she can stay on top of making your bespoke pieces, as well as stock for the shop (I can’t wait to show you the exciting stock she has in the works!).

I will be in the store on Fridays 10 am – 5 pm, and Saturdays 10 am – 1 pm to help you all out with your jewellery needs, including booking appointments, quoting and invoicing, as well as of course helping you pick out stock pieces from the store. I can’t wait to meet you all!

I am currently studying Gemmology by distance with Gem-A, so obviously am a bit of a fan of gemstones. I recently got asked what my favourite gemstone was, and I must say it was a tough choice! I think in the end I managed to narrow it down to six types of gemstones (whoops). Although I must say, you cannot go past a good sapphire. There are so many different localities around the world and each spot gives you a totally different Sapphire. Did you know we even have sapphires down here in Tassie? Nicole has a really sweet little collection of them for bespoke makes if you want to make a truly Tassie inspired piece. This pear is one of my favourites.

My absolute favourite included gemstone though is rutile quartz. Rutile is a common Titanium oxide inclusion seen in many gemstones (including sapphire!), and when thin and wipsy, is nicknamed ‘silk’. I like that rutile in quartz tends to contrast the colour of the quartz crystal quite strongly, so you get these absolute stand-out gemstones. Golden rutile is probably my favourite (and the most popular in the gem world), but you also get copper and silver coloured rutile. Nicole has a great range of included quartz – and it isn’t limited to just rutile (you can get pyrite, hematite and tourmaline inclusions too!). Below is an interesting ‘hammer cut’ golden rutile quartz. It’d make quite the pendant or ring! Click here for more info.

Rock on!
Sarah x
